The Most LgbtQ Friendly Cities in America

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation recently published an LgbtQ-friendly Corporate Equality Index that ranks companies by their commitment to LGBTQ equality. This index indicates which companies have embraced policies that protect employees' rights to live and work as they see fit. Of the Fortune 500 companies ranked, 767 earned 100% ratings, with many more falling short of this goal. Today, gender identity is part of many non-discrimination policies, up from 3% in 2002. Many of these companies have jobs posted on Monster, too.

The University of Pennsylvania is another LgbtQ-friendly university. Founded in 1766, Rutgers University has a population of about 48,000 students. The campus's Stonewall Center supports the LGBTQ community and has a speaker's bureau that addresses issues of equality and acceptance. It also hosts numerous LGBTQ-friendly events throughout the year. And with over 25 student groups, Rutgers University is a great place for college students to attend.

Seattle is an incredibly LGBTQ-friendly city and welcomes all. Capitol Hill is the gay epicenter, with rainbow-painted crosswalks and many businesses open to LGBTQ people. In addition to this, Seattle hosts two Pride festivals each year, and is home to the largest LGBTQ-identified men's chorus and women's chorus in the world. The Seattle Men's Chorus and the Women's Chorus make Seattle a great place to live, work, and play.

Although North Dakota is an Lgbtq friendly state, it is still far from fully inclusive. Only 2.7% of the population is LGBTQ, but cities such as Fargo and Grand Forks are among the most LGBTQ-friendly places to call home. In fact, Fargo was the first city on the High Plains to pass anti-discrimination legislation. It also hosts the longest-running Pride festival and a LGBTQ film festival.

As for Arkansas, it is an incredibly diverse state with several cities that are more LGBTQ-friendly than the state as a whole. Missoula, the home of the University of Montana, is an LGBTQ-friendly city that is home to many running clubs and gay chorus groups. Similarly, Bozeman and Helena are also considered to be LgbtQ-friendly cities. It is important to note that while each city is different, they all strive to create an environment that is accepting to all citizens.

In terms of LGBT-friendly colleges, Indiana has a number of notable LGBTQ-friendly universities and colleges. In fact, a comprehensive study of the US college scene revealed that 29 universities were rated as LgbtQ-friendly. For more information, visit the Campus Pride Index. When looking for a gay-friendly campus, don't forget to check out the QS World University Rankings. All the universities listed on this website are ranked by their LGBT-friendliness.

Many businesses don't even know how to make their listings more LGBTQ-friendly. Thankfully, Google made this process simple by adding the new attributes to GMB listings. All you need to do is log in to your GMB account, access the Info tab, and then go to the Attributes section of the listing editor. This new attribute should be visible within three business days. If you're not on the list yet, don't worry! Just make sure you add the relevant attributes.
